The Santa Elena Orchid Gardens contain Costa Rica’s largest selection of native orchid species. Over 425 orchid varieties are on display, including the world’s most miniature and several types that are rarely seen by human eyes because they live high in the forest canopy. Tours of the gardens are offered in Spanish and English and can last from 25 to 45 minutes, depending on the visitor’s level of interest. Onsite guides will even share practical advice for caring for orchids at home, including offering tips and methods to control pests naturally. An onsite cafeteria offers fresh brewed coffees and pastries at an additional cost.
